Treasury Check Verification System (TCVS) Payee Name Validation Reminder

June 4, 2025

As communicated in November 2024, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Bureau of the Fiscal Service (Fiscal Service) upgraded its Treasury Check Verification System (TCVS) Application Programming Interface (API) to allow banks and service providers to validate the payee’s name on checks issued by the U.S. Treasury.

Fiscal Service’s payee name validation feature is available only through Fiscal Service’s TCVS secure API connection and is not accessible through Fiscal Service’s TCVS public website. Fiscal Service offers secure API connections to TCVS to banks and service providers.

If you would like to use this enhanced feature currently used by many financial institutions and service providers, please follow the steps below:

  1. Visit Fiscal Service’s TCVS website (Off-site).
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Terms and Conditions (Off-site).
  3. Complete Fiscal Service’s Terms and Conditions for TCVS API Keys application for financial institutions and email it to Fiscal Service at PaymentIntegrity@fiscal.treasury.gov

Please note: Fiscal Service requires only one Terms and Conditions application to be completed per bank as the issued API keys may be used by any authorized personnel within your institution.

Once Fiscal Service receives your application, it will be reviewed and, if approved, you will receive TCVS API keys along with implementation instructions from Fiscal Service. You will then need to coordinate with your IT department to integrate the API into your systems. Fiscal Service’s TCVS secure API connection is not a website or a portal. It is a system interface for which your bank has to build a connection, which then can either be integrated with your bank’s core processing system or operated independently of it.

If you have any questions about the TCVS API or the enrollment process, please contact Fiscal Service’s Fraud Prevention and Financial Integrity section at PaymentIntegrity@fiscal.treasury.gov.

Fiscal Service appreciates your continued partnership as it works to strengthen the security of Treasury payment processes.
