APIs in Action: Loomis Armored increases automation with FedCash® E-Manifest Service API

Today, the United States cash supply chain is a largely paper-based operation, reliant on manual data entry. That’s about to change, however, with the growth of new technologies such as the FedCash E-Manifest Service API (application programming interface), which streamlines the tracking and exchange of data.

The FedCash E-Manifest Service API supports the industry's Cash Visibility initiative by digitizing the exchange of information about cash custody transfers between the Federal Reserve and armored carriers. By delivering electronic manifests via an API, armored carriers, on behalf of their financial institution customers, can more efficiently process currency deposits and orders at Fed docks. The API is available to Federal Reserve cash supply chain partners that transact deposits and orders with the Federal Reserve, including financial institutions, armored carriers and their technology providers.

Early adopter pilots the FedCash E-Manifest Service API to improve processes

Loomis Armored US, LLC (Loomis) provides secure transport, ATM services, cash processing and outsourced vault services for banks, financial institutions and commercial and retail businesses. CIT (Cash in Transit) Application Director Sreeja Pulik and Senior Developer John Sifri learned about the FedCash E-Manifest Service API when Loomis’ Cash Management Systems business line mentioned the Cash Visibility initiative. Pulik explained that the company was excited to connect with the Federal Reserve to initiate a pilot of the API and support its development.

The FedCash E-Manifest Service API is flexible and easy to adopt according to your institution’s capabilities. If you ensure that everyone is on board to move it forward, the API can be a building block for integration.

Loomis built an API interface and mobile application to work with the FedCash E-Manifest Service API, resulting in easier cash processing transactions and exchange of data. Onboarding was easy, and Pulik and Sifri emphasized how the API has helped increase automation, integration and speed.

The previous cash deposit and order processes at Fed docks were on paper, requiring hand delivery. With the FedCash E-Manifest Service API, we can do everything electronically, allowing us to access data up front. Now, our processes are more efficient and accurate.
