Check Adjustments Services to decommission fax submissions on September 27

The Federal Reserve Banks previously announced a plan to decommission the ability to fax supporting documentation for check adjustments cases in the summer of 2020. We recognize that our financial institution customers have had to enact extraordinary modifications to their payments operations due to COVID-19, and we are here to provide you and your customers with meaningful support during this difficult time. In an effort to provide some relief and assistance to our customers, we have postponed these changes to begin on September 27, 2020.

Check Adjustments Subscribers who currently upload a text file (TXT) to submit check adjustments cases and then fax their supporting documentation will need to adopt an alternate process for sending in attachments if a file upload is used. See below for a summary of recommended options for your institution. Testing for these alternative processes is available now and will continue until the new production cutover date is implemented.

Option 1: JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) file upload

Upload a check adjustments message file via the JSON file format, which allows users to imbed attachments directly into the upload file. Testing for the JSON file is currently available.

For a JSON test file extract and specifications, log in to FedLine® Home and follow this path: Training > Resources > Check > Check Adjustments 2019 Upgrades. These specifications are available in the Training section of FedLine Home.

Option 2: TXT file upload

Upload a check adjustments message file via the TXT file format. When an attachment is needed, the message will reject to the Subscriber’s Outbox so they can electronically add the attachment before submission. Testing is now available for this option.

Please note that if a message’s Documents to Follow (DTF) indicator shows F, M or Y and an attachment is either required or optional for the investigation type, the message will automatically reject to the Outbox for the Subscriber to manually add before submitting.

For a TXT test file extract and specifications, log in to FedLine Home and follow this path: Training > Resources > Check > Check Adjustments 2019 Upgrades.
